How Much Does a Shopify Store Cost in India? (2026 Breakdown)
The plan price is only part of the bill. Here’s everything an Indian Shopify store actually pays for — with real numbers and a simple way to pick the cheapest plan for your sales.
We build the funnels, stores and CRMs we write about — this isn't outsourced content.

The Shopify store cost in India is more than the monthly plan price you see on Shopify’s website. Once you add GST, transaction fees, apps and a theme, the real number can be quite different — and choosing the wrong plan can quietly cost you thousands of rupees every month.
This guide breaks down every cost an Indian Shopify store pays, using Shopify’s current India prices, and shows you how to work out which plan is actually cheapest for your sales.
Shopify plan prices in India
Shopify lists these prices for India, in rupees, before GST:
- Basic: ₹1,994 per month, or ₹1,499 per month if you pay yearly.
- Grow: ₹7,447 per month, or ₹5,599 per month if you pay yearly.
- Advanced: ₹30,164 per month, or ₹22,680 per month if you pay yearly.
- Plus: from ₹1,75,000 per month, for large, high-volume brands.
Paying yearly saves about 25% on the Basic, Grow and Advanced plans. Shopify also runs a starter offer — at the time of writing, a 3-day free trial followed by ₹20 per month for the first 3 months — which makes it cheap to build and test your store before launch.
Add 18% GST
Indian businesses pay 18% GST on Shopify’s subscription and fees. So the Basic plan on yearly billing is really about ₹1,769 per month, not ₹1,499. If you’re GST-registered, you may be able to claim input tax credit — ask your accountant.
Shopify transaction fees in India
This is the cost most people miss. Shopify Payments isn’t available in India, so Indian stores use third-party gateways such as Razorpay, PayU or Cashfree. When you do, Shopify charges its own transaction fee on each order, on top of whatever your gateway charges:
- Basic: 2% of each sale
- Grow: 1% of each sale
- Advanced: 0.6% of each sale
Your payment gateway then charges its own fee per transaction, plus GST on that fee. Check your gateway’s current pricing page, since rates vary by payment method.
Here’s why this matters. A store selling ₹5,00,000 a month on the Basic plan pays Shopify ₹10,000 a month in transaction fees alone — far more than the plan itself.
Which Shopify plan is cheapest for you?
Because higher plans charge lower transaction fees, upgrading can actually save money once your sales grow. Using yearly prices:
- Basic → Grow: Grow costs ₹4,100 more per month but saves 1% on every sale. It pays for itself once you sell more than about ₹4.1 lakh a month.
- Grow → Advanced: Advanced costs about ₹17,081 more per month but saves 0.4% on every sale. It pays for itself above roughly ₹43 lakh a month in sales.
Grow and Advanced also add features such as more staff accounts and better reports, so the right plan isn’t only about fees — but fees are often the deciding factor.
Real examples: what three stores would pay
Here’s what Shopify itself would charge three different stores each month, using yearly prices and before GST. Gateway fees and apps come on top.
Store A: new brand selling ₹1 lakh a month
On Basic: ₹1,499 plan + ₹2,000 in transaction fees (2%) = ₹3,499. Grow would cost ₹5,599 + ₹1,000 = ₹6,599. Basic is clearly the right choice.
Store B: growing brand selling ₹8 lakh a month
On Basic: ₹1,499 + ₹16,000 = ₹17,499. On Grow: ₹5,599 + ₹8,000 = ₹13,599. Upgrading to Grow saves about ₹3,900 every month — around ₹46,800 a year.
Store C: established brand selling ₹50 lakh a month
On Grow: ₹5,599 + ₹50,000 = ₹55,599. On Advanced: ₹22,680 + ₹30,000 = ₹52,680. Advanced saves about ₹2,900 a month and adds more advanced features.
Many stores stay on Basic long after it stops being the cheapest plan. If your sales have grown since you signed up, it’s worth running these numbers again.
Other costs to plan for
- Domain name: a small yearly fee for your .in or .com address.
- Theme: Shopify offers free themes. Premium themes are a one-time purchase, priced in US dollars on the Shopify Theme Store.
- Apps: most stores need a few — reviews, WhatsApp chat, shipping, email marketing or COD verification. Many charge monthly, so add them up carefully.
- Shipping and COD: courier and cash-on-delivery charges from your shipping partner.
- Design and development: a one-time cost if you hire someone to build or customise your store.
- Marketing: ads, email tools and SEO to bring in customers after launch.
What does it cost to build a Shopify store?
Build costs depend on how much custom work you need. Broadly, there are three levels:
- Do-it-yourself: a free theme, set up by you. The cheapest option — just your plan, apps and time.
- Customised theme: a premium or free theme adapted to your brand, with products, payments, shipping and key apps set up professionally. This suits most small and growing brands.
- Fully custom build: a theme designed from scratch, custom features and integrations with your inventory or ERP software. For established brands with specific needs.
Whichever level you choose, budget for speed and conversion work. A fast, well-structured store earns more from the same traffic, which usually matters more than saving on the build. Our Shopify service covers builds, redesigns and speed fixes, and our Shopify SEO checklist covers what to set up so the store can be found.
Shopify budget checklist before you launch
Before you commit, write down a number for each of these. It takes ten minutes and prevents surprises in your first few months:
- Plan price (monthly or yearly) plus 18% GST.
- Shopify transaction fee for your expected monthly sales.
- Payment gateway fee for your expected monthly sales, plus GST.
- Every paid app you plan to install, per month.
- Theme cost, if you’re buying a premium theme.
- Domain renewal per year.
- Shipping and cash-on-delivery charges per order.
- A marketing budget for your first three months — a store with no visitors makes no sales.
Add the monthly items together and divide by your expected number of orders. That gives you your platform cost per order — a much more useful number than the plan price alone.
5 ways to reduce your Shopify costs
- Pay yearly once you’re sure the store is working — it saves about 25% on the plan.
- Upgrade at the right time. Use the break-even numbers above so transaction fees don’t eat your margin.
- Audit your apps every few months. Remove ones you don’t use; many stores pay for apps they’ve forgotten about.
- Use your theme’s built-in features instead of adding an app for every small thing.
- Invest in conversion, not just traffic. Improving your conversion rate lowers what each sale costs you in ads.
Is WooCommerce cheaper in India?
WooCommerce has no platform transaction fees, which makes it attractive for high-volume Indian stores. But you pay for hosting, plugins and maintenance instead. We compare the two in detail in Shopify vs WooCommerce.
